Digital homeschooling resources and curriculum is convenient and often very affordable. You can store the files on your computer and print them as needed, essentially freeing up your classroom space and keeping it free from textbooks. However, if you are not organized you can easily forget what you have purchased and end up spending money on the same items. To get organized consider the following tips.

●Keep an excel sheet of the subjects or titles along with the website, date, and cost

●Refer to that excel sheet before making another purchase

●Keep on file on your desktop labeled with that subject

●Consider printing a copy of the excel sheet and keep it in your binder

Be consistent in your filing of digital files so you are sure to check there before making any purchases. As you do purchase new files be sure to update your excel sheet and the download file you have saved on your desktop.

Keep your filing system simple and visual that way you do not have to waste your time searching your entire computer system looking for your homeschool curriculum. If you prefer to use homeschool apps that allow you to access your homeschooling files from anywhere, then consider the following services.

 5 Digital Homeschooling Apps

There are different digital options for planning and managing almost all your homeschooling systems such as attendance, planners, and assignments. Most of these apps will sync to your smartphone or Google products such as Google Drive and Google Calendar. Take your time and see what application works best for your homeschooling situation.

  1. Google Classroom -  this sync with your Google Calendar and Google Drive which can give you an all-in-one option for storing your important homeschooling files and appointments.
  2. Google Drive - you can create excel sheets, word documents, and PowerPoint slides and connect them to your Google Calendar. Since Google owns YouTube, you can now add video links to your assignments.
  3. Homeschool Planet - you can manage your homeschool schedule and your lessons within this application. There are options to add your start date and your end date, along with auto-populating lesson plans for you.
  4. Trello - this application allows you to plan your homeschool curriculum digitally. This is a free online management tool where you can create unit studies, curriculum boards, and interactive notebooks.
  5. Clickup - is a cloud-based tool that is like Trello but offers additional benefits such as creating lists, mind mapping, Timeline, and Table view.

Some homeschooling parents do not date their school lessons because life can be unpredictable. Instead, they make use of days such as Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, or Lesson 1, Lesson 2, and Lesson 3. If you would like to save money consider using Google Suites which is available to you at no cost. You only need to sign up for a free Google email, called Gmail. Google is also an iCloud option which means you can access it from any smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer if you have an internet connection.
