You can enrich your children’s homeschool experience by including the study of a foreign country. Include various foods, cultures, and traditions that people in the country celebrate. Does your child have a natural curiosity about a specific country? If not this would be your opportunity to take your child to the local library and look through the vast array of Foreign Studies.

Once you and your child agree on a foreign country be sure to check out as many books on that topic as possible. You may even want to check out videos, movies, and documentaries while you're at the library checking out the reference books.

3 Reasons to Study Foreign Countries

1.    As a parent, it is important to instill in your child an appreciation for diversity and cultural understanding. Teaching them about the world around them can help them develop empathy and respect for other cultures. One great way to do this is through foreign studies programs, which can provide valuable opportunities for your child to learn about other countries’ customs, traditions, and ways of life. By exposing your child to different perspectives and experiences from a young age, you can help shape them into a more well-rounded and compassionate individual.

2.    Exposing your children to foreign studies can open their minds to a whole new world of cultures and traditions, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the diversity that exists in our global community. By immersing themselves in different ways of living and thinking, they can learn valuable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and empathy, which can serve them well throughout their lives. Furthermore, through exposure to other societies and systems of governance, they can develop a greater appreciation for the freedoms and opportunities that they enjoy in their own country. Ultimately, foreign studies can be an enriching experience that broadens horizons and enhances personal growth.

3.    This will show your children how to respect and appreciate others that are not like them.

Once your child picks out their foreign country allow them to learn more about how those people live including their culture and the types of food that they grow. Make the curriculum fun by including a variety of different activities such as interactive workbooks, and audio or video documentaries. Another way to make this foreign study interesting is to include the food that they color conserve, listen to an audio of how they speak, and encourage your child to dress the way they dress.

When the children learn interactive and hands-on skills, you give them new ways to learn and retain the information. Learning about other cultures and ways of life in other countries should be a fun and enjoyable homeschool lesson.

It is also a great way to get the entire family involved such as everyone sitting together to learn the language or allowing your student to put on a skit or play using the new information they've learned. Depending on the age and maturity of your child you may even allow them to have free rein on the types of meals they cook and the costume designing to reflect that country's traditions.

Be sure to incorporate a variety of resources such.

●     Videos of their lifestyles

●     Documentaries

●     Audio recordings

●     Cookbooks

●     Television channels from that Country

●     Coloring books and other textbooks

Invite a homeschooling family to join you in this study. Each family would be responsible for providing an element and sharing it with the entire group. When multiple people participate in a group study, it’s more enjoyable and the students learn to work together as a team.
