Help your child enjoy writing by allowing them to create their own magazine. Children of all ages can enjoy writing when they create a magazine about a subject they find interesting. If you are homeschooling several children then allow them to work together as a team on this project. You could even take it one step further and make it a family affair. Let the children begin by writing in a diary for a journal this way they can get their ideas down on paper before they sit down to do the technical parts. Below are five steps to help you create your magazine.<ol><li>Agree On a Subject - This can be based on a particular interest or a subject from school. Don't give them too many roles and give them free creative Reign on creating for choosing the subject for their magazine. Allowed to be anything from their favorite game, sport, Hobby, or even something that they're learning in school for that month.</li></ol>Be sure to decide on how many categories and features you would like your student to have in the magazine that way they are prepared ahead of time on knowing what the limit would be. You would not want your child to have twenty-five columns since most magazines do not have that many columns.<ol start="2"><li>Name the Magazine - Is this going to be a general magazine that could be based on your family name, or will you choose a creative name? Think of everything you want to include in the magazine and then faced the name of the magazine to reflect the content that will be written inside. If you have several suggestions for a name put the suggestions in a bowl and choose one. This way you can vote on what you want the name of the magazine to be. This should help reduce any type of arguing or hurt feelings by drawing a name out of a bowl.</li><li>Write the Stories - Now that you have a subject of the magazine, and you have the name of the magazine you need to start writing for the magazine. Does the magazine include up-to-date news articles? If so have an older child or adult go online and research some relevant current news to place inside the magazine.</li><li>Featured Story - Many magazines have a featured story that contains nice pictures. Give your child the option to either take photos using their cameras, draw pictures or print images from the internet to go along with their feature story. This could also be a place for your child to include an interview with somebody they find fascinating. Keep in mind that the interviews can be done through zoom and not necessarily be required to do an in-person interview.</li><li>Question of the Day - A fun idea for your magazine would be to include a question of the day column where children can ask questions or go online to search for questions and then allow the student to find the answer and place it inside the magazine.</li></ol>You and your family are only limited to your imagination, so take your time to design a magazine that you can show your friends and family and take to your next homeschooling Co-op group.
